The
Director has collected for many years authentic
White Star Line relics, artifacts, and ephamera.
The first item of his collection was a book
entitled "The Sinking of the Titanic," published in
1912, which he found in his Grandfather's extensive
collection of books. The illustration on the cover
caught the attention of the then seven year old,
and he asked his Grandfather about the ship. The
story told made such an impression on the young lad
that he would thereafter be fascinated with ships,
the Titanic, and White Star Line. It would be
another 15 years however before an authentic piece
of White Star Line history would be acquired. After
that first piece, the collection grew
rapidly.
The
White Star Line Memorial Foundation was formed in
1998 in order to provide free displays to those who
would otherwise not have an opportunity to see
genuine White Star Line/Titanic and related
artifacts.
The
WSLMF only collects rare and unique White Star
Line, and related items. We do not collect
reproduction items.
Some
items in the WSLMF collection are one of a kind and
extremely valuable. Among these are two original
broadsides from the 1850's which advertise the
ships and sailing dates of the early years of the
White Star Line under "Pilkington and Wilson" and
"Wilson & Chambers." One broadside is one of
only two known to exist and advertises the "Red
Jacket" sailing to Melbourne, Australia, and the
other is the only known example of the period
advertising the "Guy Mannering."
Currently,
the WSLMF has over 12,000 original images
consisting of photographs and postcards, 250 period
advertisements/posters, 380 plans and diagrams, and
1,200 artifacts of the White Star Line and related
interests.
We
have taken great pride in keeping the focus on the
White Star Line and on bringing happiness to others
through our efforts. We are currently involved in
displays and exhibits in Europe in order to raise
money for charities here.
We do
not accept monetary donations. We do consider
donations of artifacts.
